Poetry Night at the International School of Choueifat

On Friday, the 5^th of February, 2016, the International School of Choueifat’s Arabic Poetry Club held a poetry evening at the school theater. The event was attended by the President of Choueifat International Schools, SABIS, Mrs. Leila Charles Saad, President of the ISC Alumni HE former minister Mr. Fadi Abboud, artist George Khabbaz, in addition to a group of parents, teachers, students, and representatives from the SABIS schools.

Mrs. Amal Hamza, coordinator in the Arabic Department, started the event with a speech about the importance of poetry in preserving the language, customs, and heritage of nations. She also praised the Arabic Poetry Club’s efforts to achieve these goals. The evening's guest, Mr. George Khabbaz, also commended the efforts made by the ISC students and shared with the audience one of his famous poems.

23 students recited a selection of poems which included pieces written by poets such as Nizar Qabbani, Saeed Akl, Mahmoud Darwish, Abdullah Hassan, Hisham Aljoukh, Abu Qasim Al Chebbi, Gibran Khalil Gibran, Omar al-Farra, Elia Abu Madi and Feyrouz Al-Abdullah.

This memorable evening falls under many literary and artistic events organized by the Student Life Organization throughout the year.
